Snickerdoodles

1 cup butter or shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoons baking soda
cinnamon and sugar mixed to taste

Preheat oven to 400F. Mix together butter and sugar until smooth, then add eggs, cream of tartar, and baking soda. Stir in flour until well mixed. Roll into balls about 1" in diameter and roll in cinnamon and sugar to coat. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and bake 8-10 minutes. Cookies are done when they are just barely browning.

Would make this again.
This recipe is great! I make these for Christmas every year. It is the one cookie that is always requested. I can't imagine what "Ontario omitted in the recipe (???) for her whole family to dislike them so much. She really should try again! five stars

Would make this again.
This is a family favorite. It is a different and nice compliment to the other rich recipes we make at Christmas, but great any time of year. and much easier than making sugar cookies! We use 1/2 margarine and 1/2 shortening and if you dont have cream of tartar, try substituting 2 t baking powder and 1/4 t. nutmeg for it. five stars

these are fantastical.... I love them!!!! butter tastes better than shortening though. I would definitely recommend these cookies for a short easy delicious recipe. five stars
