1/2 cup milk
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
3 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix sugar, butter, cocoa, and milk in a large saucepan. Boil for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add peanut butter. Stir until blended. Add rolled oats, nuts, vanilla, and salt. Put into 8"x8" square pan and chill. Cut into squares.

If your cookies didn't harden it's because you didn't bring them to a FULL rolling boil and keep it boiling for 5 minutes. This is key....otherwise you'll end up with a lovely sauce for over ice cream, lol.

Would make this again.
Use powdered sugar instead of regular sugar and the cookies will set better. I also like to set mine on parchment paper instead of waxed so they don't stick. These are so yummy I've been making and eating them since childhood!

I will make these again! 1 minute 5 seconds is not long enough! my old recipe went for 1 minute 10 seconds,and it was still problematic re quality.Thank you Penny!
