Chewy Caramel Bars

3/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup flour
1 cup oatmeal
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
32 caramels, unwrapped
1 tablespoon butter
3 tablespoons milk
1 package (6 oz) chocolate chips, about 1 cup
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 F. In a small mixing bowl, combine butter, flour, oatmeal, brown sugar,
and baking soda; mix well. Put 3/4 of butter-oatmeal mixture in an ungreased 9x13 pan, pressing evenly over the bottom of pan. Bake for 10 minutes. In a saucepan, combine the caramels, butter, and milk and heat, stirring, until the caramels are melted. Pour caramel mixture over the baked crust and sprinkle with chocolate
chips and nuts. Top with remaining butter-oatmeal mixture. Bake for 15 minutes more. Cool and cut into bars.

I don't know if I made this correct. My finish product seems very crumbly? The mixture seemed so dry. Did I do something wrong?? three stars

Liked this, but it was bit difficult to get out of the baking dish. Maybe I'll spray it next time. I'd make these again. And also will try putting the oatmeal in the processor first so that it is not so obvious in the finished cookie, but rather an unexpected flavor. five stars

These bars were so easy to make I was surprised-even my 5 and 2 year old helped! I made recipe as is, however I have to make these for a cookie exchange next month and I plan on increasing the first 5 ingredients by 1/4 to allow more coverage on the top. I tried cutting them after having them cool for 2 hours, but they were still too soft, so I will wait and see how it is in a little while-Hope it does not take to long as I have to make 6 batches for the cookie exchange! These were simply delicious-as least the crumbs were from us trying to cut it too early. Definitely recommend! five stars
