Chewy Noëls

2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped nuts
1/3 cup flour
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 beaten eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
powdered sugar
1 tube of green decorator icing with a writing tip

In a 9x9" baking pan melt butter or margarine. Stir together brown sugar, nuts, flour and salt; then stir in eggs and vanilla. Pour over butter in pan; do not stir. Bake at 350 F for 20 to 25 minutes. Sift the powdered sugar over top. Placed waxed paper under wire rack, immediately invert pan onto rack. Cool. Dust again with powdered sugar. Cut into bars. Write "Noël" on each bar with green decorator icing.

These were easy to make and even though I forgot to add the baking soda (LOL) they still tasted good! I would definitely try them again. four stars

I have been making these every Christmas since the early 70's when I saw the recipe in a Better Homes and Gardens magazine. They are so easy to make and a favorite with everyone. I have to make a huge batch because they are always the first to go. five stars

Very good, but what kind of nuts did it call for? I only had walnuts on hand and feel another type would have been better. Any suggestions? four stars

I first made this recipe 35 years ago from a newspaper clipping and my family loved it. Called "Chewy Noels" way back then, Ive included it in my Christmas cookie platter ever since. Buttery, nutty, chewy and not overwhelming sweet, it is one of our favorites. five stars

It was a good recipe, I would make it again, but mostly to see if it would turn out better than the first time i made it. Although it is an easy and tasty recipe. three stars

This was unbelievable! I loved it! It was easy and tasted great. Also, it added a new color and texture to my cookie dish. I used my favorite 8x10-inch glass baking dish instead of the suggested one. Also, I sprinkled confectioner's sugar into pretty decorative liners before setting a cookie into each one. Then, I finalized with a little more sprinkling.
Yummy and so pretty! five stars
