MomMom's Sugar Cookies

I added a word to the dictionary during the Christmas Holidays--MomMoms Sugar Cookies: dough rolled out thinly on floured surface and cut with assorted Christmas shapes together with fun, laughter and love. Although MomMom has moved to heaven, as I roll and cut the same recipe along with the same cookie cutters, in the same kitchen the tradition started, the memories are etched in my thoughts. Thoughts of love and caring and MomMoms great smile with the bright twinkle of her eyes as she baked the best tasting sugar cookies ever made--in My Book, My Dictionary! Thank you MomMom! Contributed by Maureen Yin.

Makes about 60

3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup solid vegetable shortening
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add shortening, mixing witha fork. Add eggs and vanilla, stirring until well incorporated. Chill dough for several hours or overnight. Pre-heat oven to 375 F. Roll out chilled dough thinly on a floured surface. Cut with cookie cutters and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for about 8 minutes or until lightly golden in color.

My grandson calls me mommom and we made the cookies for santa and of course for mommy and daddy and they were great but of course my grandson is only 22 months old so we had a fun time doing this with sugar and flour on us and the dog and cats!!! And they tasted great five stars

Absolutely loved this cookie!!! I used butter flavored crisco and this is the best sugar cookie I have tried. The only problem I had was the cookies stuck to the pans. Could just be my pans, I am going to try again and spray non-stick on the pans. four stars

They were not as good as other cookies from other websites, but they were easy and beautiful when they were finished. I would reccomend adding a lot of icing to inhance flavoring to them, and use a teaspoon or so more water to make them more moist. Don't roll them thin, because they burn very easily. Plus, thicker the better, and thicker the moister. three stars

I didn't really like this recipe. Although the instructions were fairly easy, I did not really like the taste that they had.
