1 cup butter
2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg yolk
8 oz semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts or pistachios
Preheat oven to 350F. Use a food processor or mixer to combine butter, flour, vanilla, brown sugar and egg yolk. Press into an ungreased 10x15-inch pan. Bake 15 minutes. Remove from the oven; sprinkle with chips. Let stand several minutes to melt the chocolate; spread chocolate evenly over the surface. Sprinkle with nuts. Cover with a piece of waxed paper; press gently to make nuts adhere. Score into bars while still warm; chill to harden chocolate.

What is not to like? These disappear quickly. Be sure to cut while still warm or they are too hard to cut. I use a pizza cutter and cut into diamond shapes.

I make this every year, but I use hershey's chocolate bars instead of chocolate chips. Break them up in the little squares and spread as they melt. This is a great recipe and easy to do.

I have this recipe in my BHG cookbook, and it definitely is 1/2 lb of butter (1 cup), not 1/2 cup. It is one of my favorite cookie recipes. I often mix the chocolate chips in with the dough and replace the the nuts with more chips(nut allergy). Try with 1/2 semisweet and 1/2 white chocolate chips. Delicious!
RESPONSE: recipe fixed, thank you!

This could be a delicious recipe, but I believe there is a typo in the ingredients. It should include 1/2 lb. of butter rather than 1/2 cup.

This recipe is an old favorite of mine, but I like it a lot better with MILK chocolate (instead of semi-sweet) melted on top!

I think 1 cup of flour is more ideal--way, way, too dry.

The "toffee" part of this cookie was bland. Almost tastes like chocolate covered flour.
